Great capture of mood there Neil. The blankets these days have many uses. Among these are: carying children & shopping keeping warm in winter and cool in sumer as the 'woolen' blanket gives protection and insulation from the sun

Beautiful photo, Neil. If this were my photo, I'd send it in to this year's "The Everyman Photo contest" at http://www.theeveryman.com/81.php. While it does not offer huge prizes, etc.. the site does give photos more exposure to different audience. Just a thought. -mary beth

There is a sadness in the eyes, certainly, and it is a very evocative image. The blanket may be her protection from whatever caused the sadness: the big bad world, probably.

For some inexplicable reason I always expect to see this type of shot in black and white, and that may add to the drama here, but I really like the bold colours.

I suspect, however, that the image would fall short of "world class" purely for the lack of eye contact. That sadness full on would make it much more powerful and engaging.
